Army announces day and night shooting exercise in Abia, warns residents not to panic
The 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia in Abia State, has alerted residents of Ohafia and surrounding communities to a scheduled day and night shooting exercise as part of activities marking the 82 Division Corporals and Below Competition 2026.
In a statement issued by Captain Muyiwa Ayara on behalf of the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the exercise is set to take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Shooting Range, Ohafia, from 12:00 noon to 11:00 pm.
The Army explained that the exercise is a routine training designed to improve soldiers’ marksmanship, operational efficiency, and overall combat readiness.
It urged members of the public not to panic upon hearing gunshots during the period, stressing that all activities will be conducted in a controlled and secure environment.
Residents were further advised to stay away from the shooting range and avoid any unauthorised movement within and around the designated training area for safety reasons.
The statement also called on the public to comply strictly with all instructions issued by military personnel and relevant authorities throughout the duration of the exercise.
“The Nigerian Army assures the public of its commitment to the safety and security of all citizens and solicits the understanding and cooperation of the community,” the statement added.
The exercise is part of ongoing military preparedness programmes aimed at maintaining operational standards and readiness across formations.
