Tinubu holds closed-door meeting with Speaker Abbas, Reps Members at Villa
President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, alongside some members of the House at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting took place shortly after the lawmakers joined the President for the Jummah prayer at the State House mosque. However, it was not included in the President’s official schedule for the day.
Officials confirmed the presence of the Speaker and several lawmakers, including the Chief Whip of the House, Usman Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State under the APC.
Although the details of the discussions remain undisclosed, presidential aides said they were not aware of the specific agenda of the meeting.
“You can’t say if they are asking for the same thing the senators want,” one aide noted, referencing earlier meetings between the President and Senate leadership.
The engagement comes just two days after Senate President Godswill Akpabio led senior senators to a similar closed-door meeting with the President at the Villa, amid growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The latest round of meetings also follows reports that lawmakers have been lobbying for stronger assurances regarding return tickets ahead of the next electoral cycle, although the Presidency has reportedly insisted that state governors retain influence over candidate selection within the ruling party.
With the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries approaching, the series of high-level consultations signals intensifying political negotiations within the ruling party ahead of 2027.
