APC bleeds again as Sokoto Senator Lamido dumps party

The lawmaker representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deepening internal crisis within the party in Sokoto State.

In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to his ward chairman in Isa Local Government Area, Lamido said his decision was taken after careful consideration.

According to him, persistent leadership issues, suspicion, and what he described as an unfair leadership style within the party made it difficult for him to remain.

“The ongoing internal party crisis, suspicion and unfair party leadership style within the party in Sokoto State has made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my membership in good conscience,” he stated.

He further lamented the lack of unity within the party, noting that unresolved disputes and divisions had weakened its structure and slowed progress.

“The persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes have significantly hindered the progress and unity that the party once stood for,” he added.

Despite his exit, Lamido expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the APC and wished the party well in resolving its internal challenges.

Sources indicate that the senator is expected to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling another shift in the country’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
