Terrorists give FG one-week ultimatum, vow to marry off 176 abducted women and children in Kwara community

Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised fresh alarm after suspected Boko Haram fighters reportedly issued a one-week ultimatum to the Nigerian government over 176 abducted women and children.

Community members told Journalists that the abductees relayed the warning after a Jumu’ah prayer session with their captors, saying the armed group threatened mass execution if their demands are not met.

According to the residents, the terrorists accused the authorities of neglecting negotiations and claimed they were spending resources to keep the captives alive.

A source said one of the victims was allowed to speak with her family, confirming that the abductees were still alive but under strict control, with the captors allegedly teaching them Arabic and Islamic studies.

The terrorists were also quoted as warning that if no agreement is reached within a week, they may begin forcing some of the girls into marriage and killing those they consider “unfit.”

Families say the situation has left them in deep fear and uncertainty as the deadline approaches, with many describing the captivity as increasingly desperate.

Earlier reports indicated that the abducted women and children had appeared in a video released by their captors, where they were seen pleading for intervention while looking weak and distressed.

In the same video, the armed group claimed responsibility for the abductions and said the victims were being “indoctrinated,” while giving what they described as a final opportunity for government action.

Sources familiar with earlier negotiations said ransom demands of about ₦20 million per victim were made, but talks reportedly stalled due to disagreement between authorities and the abductors.

Families of the victims say they are now living in constant fear, urging both state and federal authorities to urgently intervene before the situation worsens further.
