Atiku to visit U.S, address congress

A Washington-based lobbying firm has hailed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following a high-level engagement with a senior member of the United States Congress, revealing plans for a future visit in which he is expected to address lawmakers.

The firm disclosed that the invitation was extended after what it described as a “productive” phone conversation with a prominent US congressman. While accepting the offer, Atiku reportedly emphasised that his immediate priority remains Nigeria, assuring that he would honour the invitation at a later date.

In its assessment, the firm portrayed Atiku as a seasoned statesman whose response reflects discipline, experience, and leadership maturity—qualities it said are consistent with globally respected democratic figures.

However, the firm struck a critical tone toward President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing a recent video in which he allegedly criticised the group and described Atiku as a political adversary. It argued that such remarks indicate a pattern of dismissing concerns over insecurity and governance as politically motivated.

The statement also raised concerns about what it described as signs of political rigidity within the current administration, referencing comments attributed to the president about remaining in power, which it said could raise questions about democratic norms.

Positioning Atiku as a bridge-builder on the global stage, the firm suggested he is well-placed to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States, including engagement with key political figures such as Donald Trump.

The development underscores the growing intersection between Nigeria’s domestic politics and international lobbying efforts, particularly as the race toward the 2027 general elections begins to gather momentum.
