2027: Kwankwaso breaks silence, confirms talks with NDC, PRP

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has clarified his political position amid growing speculation about a possible exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that no final decision has been taken regarding his future or that of his associates.

In a statement addressing recent media reports, Kwankwaso described circulating narratives of an imminent realignment as misleading, noting that consultations are still ongoing.

He acknowledged that the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee, while returning the matter to the High Court, has left the party in a “precarious position.”

Kwankwaso further pointed to additional legal complications, including a Federal High Court ruling that invalidated the party’s convention and a reported move by the Attorney General of the Federation to seek the deregistration of the ADC.

He recalled that his political group had earlier exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) due to similar legal uncertainties, warning that the ADC now faces comparable challenges.

According to him, consultations are ongoing with multiple political platforms, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), as stakeholders explore viable alternatives.

On the issue of the 2027 presidential race, Kwankwaso firmly dismissed claims that he had declared interest or endorsed any candidate, stressing that the ADC has yet to zone its ticket or make any official decision.

“I have neither declared any intention to run for president nor endorsed any aspirant. All speculations to the contrary are premature and unfounded,” he stated.

Reflecting on his political history, Kwankwaso highlighted his role in past presidential primaries, noting that he placed second in the 2014 APC primary behind Muhammadu Buhari and subsequently supported his candidacy. He also recalled backing Atiku Abubakar after contesting the PDP ticket in 2019.

He emphasised that his political decisions have consistently prioritised party unity and national interest over personal ambition.

Kwankwaso also clarified that his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to prior commitments, adding that he had duly informed party leadership.

He assured supporters that any definitive decision regarding his political direction would be formally communicated through official channels at the appropriate time.
