Mahmud Buba allegedly played Tinubu, top politicians; NIN, others show he is 15 years old

A 15-year-old aspirant, Sadisu Mahmud, who recently declared interest in contesting the House of Representatives seat for Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has come under scrutiny following allegations that he falsely presented himself as a 30-year-old to meet constitutional eligibility requirements.

Mahmud, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), attracted public attention in May 2026 after obtaining nomination forms for the 2027 general elections. His youthful appearance during screening in Abuja had already triggered widespread online debate.

In interviews, including one with the BBC, he reportedly claimed to be 30 years old, stating he was born on August 2, 1995, married, and formerly worked as a driver before venturing into politics.

He also gained political visibility after being linked to several prominent figures and support groups within the APC, further boosting his profile ahead of the elections.

However, emerging reports and investigative findings have challenged his claims. Data obtained from national identity records reportedly indicate that Mahmud was born on August 27, 2010, raising questions about his eligibility under Section 65 of the Nigerian Constitution, which sets the minimum age for House of Representatives candidates at 25.

Additional records from identity and immigration databases were also said to corroborate the 2010 date of birth, contradicting the information submitted during his nomination process.

The discrepancy has sparked concerns over verification procedures within party and electoral processes, with questions being raised about how such documentation was cleared during screening.

As of the time of filing this report, reactions from relevant authorities, including the APC and electoral bodies, were still being awaited.
