APC Primaries: Fintiri emerges Adamawa North candidate unopposed

Outgoing Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Adamawa North after being returned unopposed in the party’s primary election.

Fintiri’s emergence followed the withdrawal of the incumbent senator, Amos Yohanna, who declined to seek re-election, leaving no opposition in the contest.

In Adamawa South, the APC also produced a candidate as the state Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, won the senatorial primary.

Tangwami defeated former senator Grace Bent and retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Numan, to secure the party’s ticket for the zone.

However, the APC senatorial primary for Adamawa Central was suspended due to logistical challenges.

According to the party’s spokesperson in the state, Victor Dogo, the exercise was halted because electoral materials arrived late in some parts of the zone, making it impossible to conduct a fair election across all local government areas.

He explained that a new date would be announced for the completion of the exercise.

An aspirant in the zone, Alhaji Aliyu Abbati, supported the decision, describing it as fair and in the interest of party unity, noting that it would allow all contenders adequate time to mobilise support.

Meanwhile, another APC aspirant from the southern zone, Peter Fwa, had earlier withdrawn from the race and defected from the party, citing alleged imposition of candidates ahead of the primaries.

The developments highlight a mix of uncontested victories, competitive races, and internal tensions within the APC senatorial primaries in Adamawa State.
