Nigeria’s ambassador to the U.S., Are, presents credentials to Trump
Donald Trump has received Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, in Washington, in what has been described as a signal of strengthening diplomatic engagement between both countries.
The meeting, which reportedly took place at the Oval Office, comes amid commendations from Accredited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) under the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), who praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Ambassador Are as Nigeria’s envoy to the US.
CSCHEI, a United Nations-recognised platform, said the appointment of a diplomat with experience in security, intelligence, and international relations would deepen Nigeria–US cooperation across key sectors such as education, healthcare, security, oil and gas, aviation, and industry.
The group also expressed appreciation to the United States government for receiving the ambassador and supporting the commencement of his diplomatic assignment in Washington, noting that the development reflects renewed prospects for stronger bilateral engagement.
According to the statement signed by its Director-General, Hon. Kunle Yusuff, and echoed by its development partner, Africa United Congress USA, Ambassador Are’s background and professional record position him to effectively advance Nigeria’s interests in the United States.
The organisation added that the reception signals fresh opportunities for collaboration involving US-based international NGOs, development agencies, and accredited civil society groups in Nigeria, describing the development as a positive step for development-driven diplomacy.
