The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three suspected kidnappers who appeared in a viral video brandishing AK-47 rifles, ammunition and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, confirmed the development to journalists, saying the command immediately launched forensic analysis after the footage surfaced online.

According to him, digital tracking and intelligence gathering led operatives to the suspects’ hideout, where a coordinated dawn raid was carried out at Runji Village in Zuba on May 25 at about 3:22 a.m.

The operation was conducted by the FCT Police VCRU Sector 5 in collaboration with officers from the Zuba Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer.

The arrested suspects were identified as Umar Babangida (25), Adamu Yeti (22) and Yahaya Idris (24), all residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly obtained their AK-47 rifles from a gang leader known as “Esco,” who is currently at large.

Police said a search of the suspects’ mobile phones also uncovered additional videos and images showing them posing with firearms and military-style gear.

The command added that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and recover operational weapons.

The police further disclosed that tracking operations are ongoing to dismantle the wider syndicate linked to the suspects.
