Kidnappers release video of retired General Rabe Abubakar, wife in captivity
The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have released a video showing the couple in captivity while outlining conditions for their release.
The retired military officer and his wife were kidnapped along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village.
In the four-minute video, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, Mrs. Abubakar appealed to authorities and community leaders to meet the abductors’ demands in order to secure their freedom.
According to her, the kidnappers are demanding the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru, whom they claimed are currently being detained by security authorities. She said two of the individuals were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was apprehended in Kano State.
The abductors also demanded the return of livestock they alleged had been seized from them.
Mrs. Abubakar specifically appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders across five local government areas to intervene and facilitate compliance with the demands.
Speaking briefly in the video, Major General Abubakar called for efforts aimed at restoring peace, noting that the abductors had indicated a willingness to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Meanwhile, a report by Daily Trust indicated that a notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, who is said to operate in parts of Katsina State, has established communication with the family of the retired general regarding the abduction.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the video or the demands made by the abductors.
