Taraba Gov, Agbu Kefas, set to defect to APC Wednesday, cabinet declares full support
Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has announced that he will officially leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19.
He revealed this during an inspection of the ongoing renovation works at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, which is being prepared to host the high-profile declaration rally.
Speaking with journalists during the visit, Kefas described his planned defection as a move motivated by his commitment to securing a better future for the people of Taraba State.
He said the event would be historic, noting that preparations were underway to receive a large number of supporters and political dignitaries.
“I will officially transition from PDP to APC on November 19th. This movement is about the destiny and future of the people of Taraba. We are expecting many visitors for the ceremony, and everything is being put in place to ensure it is a historic event,” he stated.
When asked whether certain conditions were attached to his defection, the governor insisted there were none, saying his decision was purely in the interest of the state.
Meanwhile, members of the Taraba State Executive Council have pledged their full support for the governor’s move.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, who spoke on behalf of the cabinet, said all appointees and political allies would join the governor in his switch to the APC.
“The governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we go with him, be it APC, SDP, or ADC,” Aruwa said.
He explained that aligning with the federal government would attract greater development to the state, stressing that the decision was not driven by personal gain.
“This alignment with the federal government is for the good of all citizens, not personal interest. It is about bringing development to the state.”
“This movement is for the entire people of Taraba State. And we are with him 100 per cent,” he added.
