Mr Ibu’s widow appeals for help over rent, school fees, hardship
The family of late Nollywood comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to Nigerians for support, revealing that they are facing severe financial hardship more than two years after his death.
In an emotional interview with content creator King Mitchy, the actor’s widow and children opened up about their struggles, including unpaid rent, school fees and the lack of basic necessities.
Mr Ibu’s widow disclosed that the family has been living without electricity for about two months after their power supply was disconnected over unpaid bills.
According to her, the family now depends on water from a well and often searches for places to charge their mobile phones.
“We fetch water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They have even cut my lights for two months now. No light since. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. It’s not easy,” she said.
One of the actor’s daughters praised her mother’s efforts to keep the family together despite the difficult circumstances.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees and to make us happy,” she said.
The widow further revealed that her children are currently unable to attend school due to unpaid tuition fees.
“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said.
The content creator noted that support is being sought to help the family pay outstanding school fees, settle rent obligations and restore electricity to their home.
Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most beloved comic actors, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after a prolonged battle with health challenges. His death was widely mourned across the Nigerian entertainment industry and beyond.
