Tinubu names Akinwande new President of Surveyors Council
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Surveyor Moshood Onifade Akinwande as the new President of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON).
Akinwande is scheduled to be sworn into office in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
SURCON is the statutory regulatory body responsible for overseeing the surveying profession in Nigeria.
The council comprises 59 members, including the Surveyors-General of the 36 states, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, and the Director of Mapping in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the 1981 Set of Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, has described his appointment as well deserved.
“This landmark appointment is a testament to Surv. Akinwande’s years of dedication, professionalism and excellence in the surveying profession. It is also a proud reflection of the solid foundation, discipline and academic excellence for which our alma mater, Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, is known.
“As a Set, we are immensely proud that a product of Ladigbolu Grammar School, 1981 Set, has risen to lead the apex regulatory body for surveying in Nigeria.
This achievement brings honour not only to Surv. Akinwande and his family but also to our school, our Set and the entire Oyo community.
“We therefore felicitate Surv. Akinwande, his family and the entire surveying profession, while we pray that God Almighty will grant him wisdom, strength and grace to pilot the affairs of SURCON to greater heights.
“We call on all members of the 1981 Set, fellow alumni of Ladigbolu Grammar School and well-wishers to join us in celebrating this milestone and to support him with prayers as he assumes this national assignment.
“Once again, congratulations to Surv. Moshood O. Akinwande. Congratulations to Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo. Congratulations to the 1981 Set,” the alumni said.
Surv. Akinwande, who hails from Molete Compound in Oyo Town, retired in 2018 as Director of Research, Planning and Documentation in the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation.
