BREAKING: Mary Habila’s father petitions IGP, demands release of daughter’s body for burial
The father of late Miss Mary Habila, the nurse who died at the residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), demanding the release of her remains for burial.
Tanko Habila, accompanied by his wife, other family members and their lawyers, submitted the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday before addressing journalists.
The grieving father expressed disappointment that nearly two weeks after his daughter’s death, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to release her body to the family.
He reiterated that the family was not interested in an autopsy and only wanted the remains released for burial.
> “As we are standing here, somebody can fall and die. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried,” Habila said.
The family’s latest move comes amid ongoing controversy over the circumstances surrounding Mary Habila’s death, with police insisting on conducting an autopsy as part of investigations into the incident.
