Gombe 2027: PDP aspirant withdraws court case, backs Pantami
A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Monica Yahaya Kaltho, has withdrawn from a lawsuit challenging the party’s governorship primary and declared her support for the PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Isa Pantami, ahead of the 2027 election.
Kaltho announced her decision on Saturday, saying she discontinued the legal action after consultations and in response to an appeal by the PDP leader in Gombe State and former governor, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
The only female aspirant in the PDP governorship race said her decision was made in the interest of party unity and progress.
“I acted after consultations and in respect of the appeal made by the leader of the PDP in Gombe State, His Excellency Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who advised me to withdraw from the legal action in the interest of party unity and progress,” she said.
Describing Dankwambo as “a father and a leader whose counsel I deeply value,” Kaltho said she chose to place the unity of the party above her personal ambition.
“The unity of the PDP and the development of Gombe State are more important than personal ambition. Every member of the party should remain committed to the collective goal of ensuring PDP’s success in 2027 and delivering quality leadership to the people of Gombe State,” she added.
Reacting to the development, Prof. Isa Pantami, who emerged as the PDP governorship candidate through an affirmation process, commended Kaltho for what he described as her maturity and commitment to the party.
“I sincerely appreciate Hon. Monica Yahaya Kaltho for her maturity, patriotism and commitment to the unity of our great party. She remains an important stakeholder in the journey ahead, and everyone will be carried along as we work together to build a stronger PDP and a better Gombe State,” Pantami said.
As part of ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party, Pantami also paid Kaltho a courtesy visit at her residence, where he thanked her for withdrawing the suit and reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders as the PDP prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
