2027 polls: LP gets INEC access code, commences candidate upload

The Labour Party (LP) has confirmed receiving the official access code from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), allowing it to upload the details of its candidates for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, made the announcement in Abuja on Monday. He revealed that the upload process began on Saturday and has been progressing without any major challenges.

According to Asogwa, a substantial number of candidates had already been uploaded to the INEC portal by Monday morning.

He added that the party was working to ensure all remaining candidates’ details are submitted before the electoral commission’s deadline.

“The Labour Party can confirm that INEC has provided the party with the access code required to upload its governorship and House of Assembly candidates to the INEC nomination portal.

“The upload exercise commenced on Saturday and has been progressing seamlessly. As of this morning, we have uploaded a substantial number,” he said.

The party spokesman, however, did not disclose the states or names of candidates whose details had been uploaded.

He explained that the earlier challenges experienced by political parties during the upload of presidential and National Assembly candidates’ information were largely due to technical issues involving the harmonisation of names on party lists with records on the INEC portal.

“A lot of political parties experienced difficulties during the upload of the particulars of presidential and National Assembly candidates. It was not peculiar to Labour Party, as many parties faced the challenge due to the initial difficulty in harmonising names on parties’ lists with those on the INEC portal,” Asogwa said.

INEC had earlier released timelines for political parties to submit candidates’ particulars ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Labour Party assured that it was working to ensure compliance with the electoral commission’s requirements and meet the stipulated deadlines across all states
