The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered enhanced security measures across schools and churches as part of a proactive strategy to prevent threats and maintain a safe environment for learning and worship.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to Ikenga, the directive forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and prevent any breakdown of law and order in the state.

He said Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders have been instructed to intensify patrols, reinforce intelligence-driven operations, and deepen collaboration with community stakeholders to ensure effective and seamless security coordination.

The CP also commended the growing safety consciousness among residents, noting that Ndi Anambra have continued to show commendable vigilance, cooperation, and unity.

He emphasised that this collective commitment has played a key role in helping the Police maintain peace and stability across the state.

Part of the statement read, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has announced strengthened security measures across schools and churches in Anambra State as part of a proactive strategy to prevent threats and ensure a secure environment for learning and worship.”

“Furthermore, the CP commended the growing unity of safety consciousness among residents, noting that Ndi Anambra have continued to demonstrate commendable cooperation, vigilance, and the spirit of being their brothers’ keepers.”

Ikenga added that the Commissioner reiterated the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that the Police will continue to adjust and enhance their strategies to meet emerging security challenges while sustaining the state’s atmosphere of peace.

Earlier, on November 2, the Anambra State Police Command had received Advance Tactical Teams from the Force Headquarters to boost the state’s security architecture ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

CP Orutugu said the deployment, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is part of the Force’s operational plan to support local formations with additional manpower, advanced technology, helicopters, and drones for aerial surveillance.
