Adamawa LP suspends four over alleged attempt to unseat Chairman

The Labour Party (LP) in Adamawa State has suspended four of its members over alleged violations of the party’s constitution and acts of insubordination.

The affected members are Kamalludeen Jibrilla Aliyu, Andrew Adamu, Suleiman Abdulkareem and Tufanus Daniel.

The party alleged that the four members were involved in an unconstitutional move earlier in August to remove the state chairman, Jonah Theman Kalpenge, from office.

According to the party, the members also refused to appear before a disciplinary committee set up to investigate the alleged breach.

The suspension is part of measures by the Adamawa Labour Party leadership to address what it described as violations of its constitution and maintain discipline within the party.

The four were suspended after the State Working Committee approved their suspension based on a report by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

The party said on Monday that, after investigating and establishing the alleged involvement of the four members in the ‘unlawful’ meeting held at the party’s state office in Yola on August 5, 2026, the committee deemed it appropriate to take action against them.

The State Working Committee emphasised that it found the four members wanting and subsequently constituted a disciplinary committee, which invited them to appear before it on August 8, 2026, to explain their actions.

However, they failed to appear.

“The actions of the members contravene Articles 17.4 and 23.1.3 of the Labour Party Constitution,” the party stated.
