Actress Carolyna Hutchings exits ‘Real Housewives of Lagos’
Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Carolyna Hutchings, has announced her departure from the reality television show, The Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOLagos).
Hutchings made the announcement in a lengthy post shared on Instagram on Monday, saying she had moved on from the programme and wanted no further association with anything concerning the show.
The actress returned for the third season of the reality series after taking a break from Season 2.
Hutchings was among the original cast members when The Real Housewives of Lagos premiered in 2022.
She said she was tired of being linked to the controversies and drama involving other cast members, even after the show had ended.
She said her experience on the show had continued to influence how people perceived her career, private life and relationships, despite having a life and career outside the reality programme.
“It is exhausting being part of a reality TV show in Nigeria,” Hutchings wrote.
She explained that she had spent more than two decades in the entertainment industry, featuring in over 60 films, producing three award-winning movies and creating jobs for hundreds of people.
The actress said she enjoyed acting, storytelling and being in front of the camera but described herself as an “extreme introvert” who was selective about the people she allowed into her personal space.
Hutchings also addressed speculation about her relationship with other cast members, insisting that she did not consider any of them her friends outside the show.
“I have said this several times, but apparently it needs to be said again: No cast member of RHOL is my friend, not on the show, not after the show,” she said.
The actress said her kindness should not be mistaken for friendship, adding that people who had been her friends before the show knew why some of those relationships ended.
According to her, it was unfair for the reality show, which ended in early 2025, to continue defining her in 2026.
“What I find unfair is that a show that ended in the first two months of 2025 is still being used to define who I am in 2026,” she said.
Hutchings said she had repeatedly made it clear during the programme, on social media and during a television interview that she did not form cliques or friendships on RHOLagos.
“If I have an issue with someone, I address that person directly, as I have always done fearlessly. That is how I have lived my life,” she added.
The actress also complained about being dragged into disputes involving other cast members, saying videos and posts originally unrelated to the show had been used to connect her to controversies involving the housewives.
She urged the public and bloggers to stop associating her with the personal lives, disputes and activities of other cast members.
“The show is over for me. I have moved on,” Hutchings declared.
“I am living my life. I am doing what I love. I am happy. I am enjoying my reality. I am building a legacy my children will be proud of.”
She described her participation in RHOLagos as a chapter of her life that she enjoyed but said that chapter was now closed.
“The show was a chapter of my life that I enjoyed. That chapter is closed. It is a new dawn, and I believe it is leading to something even more beautiful,” she said.
Hutchings, however, left open the possibility of returning to the programme in the future, stressing that such a decision would be hers.
“If I decide to return for another season, trust me, I will deliver excellently, as I always do whether as the saint or the villain,” she said.
The actress also expressed appreciation to the producers, Showmax and Africa Magic for the opportunity to participate in the franchise, describing the experience as memorable.
“I remain forever grateful to the producers, the amazing streaming platform Showmax and African magic, working with you all on your maiden edition of RHOL was simply amazing, it was also fun working with you all in season 3,” she said.
Hutchings concluded by asking the public to respect her decision to move on from the show.
“But for now… let me enjoy my reality in peace,” she said.
“Leave me out of the drama.”
