VP Shettima returns from AU summit in Angola
Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Luanda, Angola.
Shettima’s return was disclosed by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, in a statement issued on Monday.
The Vice President attended the high-level meeting on behalf of President Tinubu, where Nigeria pushed for stronger African-led approaches to preventing and resolving conflicts across the continent.
Nigeria also called for urgent action to address repeated xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting Africans and other foreign nationals in South Africa.
The summit brought together African leaders to discuss key issues affecting peace, security and cooperation on the continent.
At the summit, Nigeria also backed the Luanda Action Plan and called for sustainable financing of Africa’s peace and security architecture, stronger collective responsibility among AU member states and greater African ownership of solutions to conflicts on the continent.
The Vice President returned to Abuja after the conclusion of his engagements in Angola.
