Osogbo shuts down as Aregbesola rounds off ADC Osun tour
Thousands of residents filled the streets of Osogbo on Tuesday as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) concluded its federal constituency tour in Osun State, showing strong grassroots support for the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The final rally, led by former Osun State governor and ADC National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, took place at the Technical College ground after a visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun (Larooye II).
Artisans, traders, youths, students and party supporters lined the major routes from the palace to the rally venue, where many had waited for hours under the sun to receive the ADC team.
Addressing the crowd, Aregbesola thanked residents for their loyalty and said Nigerians had already decided to vote out the current administration at all levels due to insecurity, rising poverty, economic instability and poor governance.
He said, “There is no sector where the current government has not failed. The economy is in dire straits and insecurity is ravaging the country.”
He described the ADC as the only credible alternative, promising that the party would offer “a government of vision, mission and direction” committed to development if elected. Aregbesola urged supporters to increase mobilisation and encourage eligible citizens to take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
During the earlier palace visit, the Ataoja of Osogboland openly endorsed Aregbesola’s political direction and declared the support of Osogbo people for the ADC in 2026.
The monarch praised the former governor’s efforts in transforming Osogbo between 2010 and 2018 and said, “We are not ingrates in Osogbo. I will never leave Aregbesola; I will always support him and all he represents.” He added that Aregbesola’s new mission was aimed at improving the lives of Osun people.
Other party leaders, including Dr Charles Omidiji, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, Senator Felix Ogunwale, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti and former Speaker Dr Najeem Salaam, told supporters to increase grassroots mobilisation, describing the ADC as the only party with the moral strength and capacity to restore Osun and Nigeria.
Several other political figures, such as Engr Jide Adeniji, Alhaji Rasaq Salinsile, Revd Adelowo Adebiyi, Senator Adelere Oriolowo and Mr Jide Bewaji, were also in attendance.
The Osogbo event marked the end of the ADC’s tour across the three federal constituencies in Osun, with party insiders saying the visits recorded impressive turnout and enthusiasm in all local government areas visited.
