Confederation Cup: Shooting Stars secure narrow 1-0 victory over CS Sfaxien
Shooting Stars of Ibadan began their CAF Confederation Cup campaign on a positive note after defeating Tunisian club CS Sfaxien 1-0 at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Lucky Emmanuel scored the only goal of the encounter in the 25th minute, putting the Nigerian side ahead before the half-time break.
Shooting Stars held on to their advantage despite increased pressure from the visitors after the restart.
CS Sfaxien returned for the second half with greater urgency and pushed forward in search of an equaliser. However, Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper stood firm and made crucial saves to keep the Tunisian side from finding the back of the net.
The Ibadan-based club remained organised defensively until the final whistle, securing a narrow but important victory.
However, the Shooting Stars defence remained resolute, frustrating the Tunisian side and preventing them from finding a way through.
Shooting Stars had opportunities to extend their lead towards the end of the match but failed to convert the chances.
The victory gave Shooting Stars an important advantage ahead of the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign next weekend (NAN)
