Police arrest five over destruction of Tinubu’s billboards in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested five persons over the alleged destruction of billboards and posters belonging to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other political figures in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this while responding to journalists’ questions on security arrangements and the enforcement of the ban on public horse-riding in Kano.
Bakori said the arrests followed investigations into the destruction of properties during tensions surrounding horse-riding activities and public processions in the state.
He disclosed that investigations had been concluded and the suspects charged to court, warning that the command would continue to pursue legal action against anyone found to have committed offences capable of threatening public peace.
The arrests followed a public outing by the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, on Sunday.
According to the police commissioner, reports indicated that some individuals accompanying the emir allegedly destroyed posters and billboards belonging to Tinubu, Governor Yusuf and other politicians.
Bakori said the incident further heightened tensions in the state amid the lingering Kano Emirate dispute.
The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, urging residents to avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.
