Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, a Nigerian Air Force pilot who served as co-pilot of the aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, has died just over two weeks after his wedding in Abuja.

Man-Ugwueje married Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle on September 19, 2026, before losing his life in the crash involving the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, NAF 931.

The aircraft crashed on Monday during a routine mission from Benin to Lagos, killing all 25 people on board, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed the deaths on Tuesday and released the identities of those killed, with Man-Ugwueje listed among the five crew members.

Details of his recent wedding emerged from the couple’s wedding invitation and social media posts by vendors involved in the ceremony.

The couple held their Holy Matrimony at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Masters Place, located at Plot 826, Solomon Lar Way, opposite the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Headquarters/Customary Court of Appeal in Utako, Abuja.

The wedding ceremony was scheduled for 11am, while the reception took place at 3pm at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre along the Km 10 Expressway, Asokoro, Abuja.

Man-Ugwueje’s death has added a deeply personal dimension to the tragedy, coming only weeks after he and Adekunle celebrated their marriage.

The Nigerian Air Force has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, while condolence messages have continued to follow the deaths of the 25 people aboard the aircraft.
