Tragedy as passenger dies during Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos
The airline said its crew immediately responded to the medical emergency by administering first aid and following the required emergency procedures.
A passenger has died aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi, Kenya, to Lagos after becoming unresponsive shortly before the aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, with Kenya Airways confirming the death in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the airline, the passenger became unresponsive about 20 minutes before the flight was due to land in Lagos, at around 9:20pm Nigerian time.
The airline said its crew immediately responded to the medical emergency by administering first aid and following the required emergency procedures.
The aircraft eventually landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 9:41pm, where medical personnel boarded the plane to attend to the passenger.
However, after examination, the medical team confirmed that the passenger had died.
Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident.
“Our crew administered first aid as per their training and followed all emergency procedures,” the statement reads.
“Upon landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 21:41 hrs, the aircraft was met by medical personnel, and upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away.”
Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologised for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.
“We uphold and respect the privacy and dignity for all involved,” the airline added.
The airline said it is providing the necessary support in close coordination with the deceased’s family, local authorities, and aviation regulators.
