APC sweeps all 21 chairmanship seats, 239 Councillorship positions in Kogi LG poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions in the local government elections held in Kogi State on Saturday.
The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), which conducted the election, announced the results after the collation of votes at its headquarters in Lokoja.
Declaring the results, KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda-Eri said the APC secured every chairmanship and councillorship seat across the state’s 21 local government areas and 239 wards.
Nda-Eri described the exercise as peaceful and credible, saying it was conducted in accordance with the commission’s electoral guidelines.
He also commended security agencies, election observers, journalists and voters for their conduct during the polls.
According to the KOSIEC chairman, the election concluded the 13 activities scheduled by the commission for the 2026 local government polls, a process he said began nearly a year ago.
He added that the winners would receive their Certificates of Return in due course.
The outgoing chairmen and councillors, who were sworn in on October 23, 2024, are expected to leave office this month following the expiration of their two-year tenure, in line with the state’s electoral law.
NDC Candidate Alleges Plot to Exclude Party from 2027 Ballot
Meanwhile, Adefolaseye Adebayo, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate for Surulere I Federal Constituency in Lagos State, has accused the APC of plotting to prevent her party from appearing on the ballot in the 2027 general election.
Adebayo, who also serves as the South-West Coordinator of the OK Movement, made the allegation in a video shared on her X account on Saturday.
She alleged that some individuals were planning to ensure the NDC was excluded from the ballot for the Surulere I Federal Constituency election.
The NDC candidate claimed that a similar incident occurred during the 2023 general election, when she was a member of the Labour Party.
She called on the NDC leadership and Nigerians to take the allegation seriously and work to prevent a recurrence.
However, the allegation remains Adebayo’s claim and would require independent verification.
