Bandits strike again in Kano, kidnap 25 residents in twin attacks

Bandits have launched yet another violent raid on communities in Kano State, abducting no fewer than 25 residents and injuring two others in Unguwar Tsamiya of Faruruwa village and the Dabawa community, both in Shanono Local Government Area.

The coordinated attacks occurred on Sunday night, barely 24 hours after gunmen struck Yan Kamaye in Tsanyawa LGA, another border community close to Katsina State, heightening fears of expanding insecurity along the Kano–Katsina axis.

The incident was confirmed on Monday by Bakatsine, a conflict reporter who has long monitored insecurity across Nigeria’s northwest.

In a post detailing the attack, he wrote:
“SAD NEWS: Last night, bandits attacked Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and the Dabawa community, both in Shanono LGA of Kano State.”

“Two people were injured, and at least 25 residents were abducted.”

“This incident occurred less than 24 hours after a similar attack on Yan Kamaye in Tsanyawa LGA, another community bordering Katsina State.”

He questioned the usefulness of ongoing peace deals in Katsina State, especially in border LGAs where communities continue to suffer repeated incursions by armed groups.

“With these repeated attacks, one is left wondering: What is the real value of the peace deal in Katsina State, especially in the LGAs bordering Kano State?” he added.

Residents say the latest abductions have further heightened panic, with calls growing for increased joint security deployment along the border corridor.
