Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (retd.), on Monday held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Gen. Musa arrived the State House at about 7:03 p.m. and was escorted into the President’s office wing by a senior security aide.

Clad in dark-green northern-style traditional wear with elbow-length sleeves, the retired military chief’s visit is his first meeting with the President since he exited office on October 24, 2025.

Although details of the discussion were not made public as of press time, Presidency sources hinted that the meeting may be tied to the country’s deteriorating security climate, particularly in the North.

Nigeria has witnessed a string of violent incidents in recent days, including the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, the attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State, and the kidnapping of pupils from a Catholic school in Papiri, near Minna, Niger State.

President Tinubu had earlier declared a national security emergency, directing defence and security agencies to intensify counter-terrorism operations across the North-West and North-Central regions.

The visit by Gen. Musa, who until recently served as the nation’s top military commander, is expected to form part of wider consultations as the administration seeks fresh strategies to curb escalating banditry and terror activity.
