Crowd shouts ‘Ba Ma Yi’ as Tinubu takes podium at APC campaign flag-Off in Kaduna
A section of the crowd at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on Saturday reportedly shouted “Ba ma yi” as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took to the podium to address supporters.
The incident occurred at Ranchers Bees Stadium, Kaduna, where thousands of party supporters and political leaders gathered for the flag-off of Tinubu’s campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“Ba ma yi” is a Hausa expression commonly used to indicate rejection or a lack of support.
According to Daily Trust, the reaction occurred when Tinubu called out “Nigeria” and some people in the crowd responded with the expression.
The report added that the crowd also reacted differently when the president mentioned Kaduna, prompting him to say “Sai Uba Sani” before continuing his speech.
Some of those who reportedly shouted the expression cited insecurity and the impact of the government’s economic policies as reasons for their dissatisfaction.
During his address, Tinubu acknowledged the hardship and hunger in the country but blamed the opposition for the situation, insisting that his administration was working to address the challenges.
The president also expressed confidence in the performance of APC governors, while making a case for continued support for his party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier at the event, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the party’s flags to the seven governors of the North-West geopolitical zone.
The governors were Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano, Dikko Radda of Katsina, Nasiru Idris of Kebbi, Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
According to Daily Trust, all seven governors are serving their first terms and seeking re-election under the APC.
The campaign flag-off also attracted governors from Lagos, Bayelsa, Kogi, Niger, Ogun, Adamawa, Imo, Yobe, Borno, Kwara and Ondo states, among others.
Other dignitaries at the event included the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; ministers; serving members of the National Assembly; and former governors.
The reported crowd reaction added a notable moment to the campaign event, which marked a key step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
