2027: I will not campaign for any politician – Sheikh Aminu Daurawa
The Commandant-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has declared that he will not campaign for any politician ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that he is not a politician.
His statement comes amid criticism following reports that he and the immediate past chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, were named in the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Advisory Committee.
Daily Trust had reported that the two Islamic clerics were included in the committee list released by the Kano APC chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, sparking criticism over the involvement of religious leaders in partisan political activities.
In a Hausa-language post on Facebook on Saturday, Daurawa said he would support whoever demonstrated a commitment to justice, compassion for the poor and the improvement of people’s welfare.
“I am not a politician and I will not campaign for anyone. However, I hope that whoever will uphold justice, show compassion for the poor, defend their rights and work to improve their lives will be granted victory by Allah,” he said.
The Hisbah chief also prayed for leaders who would prioritise the interests of the people above their personal ambitions.
“May Allah grant us leaders who are truthful, trustworthy and God-fearing, who will put the interest of the people above their personal interests. Amin, Ya Rabbal Alamin,” he added.
Although Daurawa did not directly address his reported inclusion in the APC campaign advisory committee, his comments come amid the controversy surrounding the participation of religious figures in political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
His remarks also emphasise the values he believes political leaders should uphold, including honesty, justice, accountability and concern for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
