Transcorp Hotels names Awele Elumelu as new Chair

Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality arm of Transnational Corporation Plc, has announced the appointment of Dr (Mrs) Awele Elumelu as chair of the company, with effect from January 1, 2026.

The company said Elumelu will take over from the current chair, Mr Emmanuel Nnorom, who is due to retire on the same date.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Transcorp Hotels said Elumelu brings strong leadership experience spanning healthcare, insurance, corporate governance and philanthropy.

She currently serves as chair of Avon Healthcare Limited, one of Nigeria’s leading health insurance providers, and Avon Medical Practice, a growing network of hospitals and clinics across the country.

She also chairs Heirs Insurance Brokers and is a founding director of Heirs Holdings Limited. Elumelu is a medical doctor who earned her MBBS degree from the University of Benin and has worked clinically in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Her professional background is further supported by executive education from institutions such as Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland and the London School of Economics.

The statement further said Dr. Elumelu’s commitment to social impact is demonstrated through her role as Trustee and Co-Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Africa’s leading philanthropy empowering young entrepreneurs.

Through the Foundation, she has been instrumental in driving gender inclusion and supporting over 24,000 young African men and women with seed capital, training, and mentorship.
