The Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed the N901.841 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, approving Governor Umar Namadi’s proposal titled “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa II.”

The budget was passed during plenary on Tuesday, following its presentation to lawmakers on November 25, 2025.

It places strong emphasis on capital development, with about 77 per cent of the total allocation set aside for capital projects across the state.

Education also received significant attention in the budget, taking over 26 per cent of the total spending plan, while agriculture was prioritised as part of efforts to strengthen food security, create jobs and drive economic growth in Jigawa.

Announcing the passage of the appropriation bill, Speaker of the House, Aliyu Dangyatim, said the lawmakers approved the budget as presented by the executive. “The budget has been approved as presented, with a total sum of N901.841 billion,” he said.

The Speaker noted that the focus of the spending plan aligns with the Assembly’s commitment to supporting policies and programmes that will improve infrastructure, human capital development and overall welfare of the people of Jigawa State.

According to Aliyu Dangyatim, the budget allocation is strategic, with capital expenditure getting N693.4 billion.

“This will drive infrastructure growth and development,” he noted.

The budget represents a 19.2% increase from 2025, showing the state’s commitment to progress, Dangyatim said.

“We’re committed to ensuring Jigawa develops rapidly,” he added.

Infrastructure development, including roads and energy projects, is prioritised.

“This will improve lives and boost economic growth,” Dangyatim stated.

The Assembly lauded Namadi’s emphasis on innovation and transformation.

“This budget aligns with our vision for Jigawa,” he added.

However, Dangyatim assured swift implementation of the budget, saying “We’ll work with the executive to ensure projects are delivered.”

Earlier, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Ibrahim Hamza Adamu, while presenting the committee’s report during the plenary session, praised the budget’s focus on key sectors like education and agriculture. “This budget prioritises development and will transform Jigawa,” Adamu said.

Ibrahim Hamza Adamu highlighted agriculture’s significant funding, including N75 billion for food and livestock.

“This will boost food security and commercial farming in Jigawa,” Adamu said.

Education gets over 26% of the budget, focusing on infrastructure and quality, Adamu noted.

“Quality education is key to Jigawa’s future,” he said.

“Jigawa State aims to boost development with this strategic budget, focusing on people-centric projects,” the chairman noted.

Our Correspondent reports that the budget was passed unanimously by the Jigawa State House of Assembly without adjusting or subtracting the main figures, retaining the original figures presented by Governor Namadi, reflecting a consensus on the state’s development priorities.
