A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an interim order restraining the Chief Judge of Rivers State from receiving or acting on any impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The order comes amid escalating political tension in the state following moves by the Rivers State House of Assembly, which had earlier resolved to ask the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the governor and his deputy.

The court’s intervention effectively halts the impeachment process, pending further hearing and determination of the suit.

Details of the ruling, including parties involved and the return date, are still emerging.
