A woman identified as Esther has reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in Abuja.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.

A resident of the area, identified as Dauda, told journalists that Esther left her home earlier on Wednesday to visit her boyfriend.

According to him, the boyfriend later contacted Esther’s elder brother that night to inform him that she had died.

Dauda added that the boyfriend claimed he bought her food, after which she started vomiting after eating.

He noted that the boyfriend took her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.

Dauda said the boyfriend has switched off his phone and that of Esther.

He said, “Esther left home in the afternoon on January 21, 2026, informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei. She, however, did not return home.

“Later that night, at about on the same day, his brother received an anonymous phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend. The caller re stated that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the meal, she began vomiting, prompting him to rush her to Kubwa General Hospital.

“He said Esther died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Since then her boyfriend’s number has been switched off, same with Esther’s phone number. He didn’t also give his name or address.”

When contacted on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said an investigation was ongoing.

“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said.
