Five injured as explosion hits Church in New York
An explosion has caused serious damage to a church in upstate New York, leaving five people injured.
The New York State Police confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday.
Authorities said a gas odour had been reported inside the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in the town of Boonville, located in Oneida County, before the explosion occurred.
A firefighter was inside the church when the explosion occurred on Tuesday.
The firefighter and a civilian were critically injured, according to the police.
The statement noted that the five injured people have been taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police, however, said that there are no signs of any criminal activity involved in the explosion.
