Edo Governor appoints Mercy Johnson as Special Adviser on Public Engagement
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has appointed Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, who said the appointment takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, Johnson was selected in recognition of her longstanding influence in Nollywood and her commitment to humanitarian and advocacy initiatives through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation.
“Mrs. Mercy Johnson-Okojie is an accomplished Nigerian actress, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures, with a career spanning nearly two decades and featuring in over 200 films,” the statement read.
Beyond her achievements in the entertainment industry, the government highlighted her work in women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach, noting that she has consistently used her platform to promote civic awareness and community development.
In her new role, Johnson is expected to leverage her public influence, communication skills, and grassroots reach to strengthen engagement between the Edo State Government and citizens.
The appointment, the statement added, reflects the governor’s resolve to involve respected public figures in advancing his administration’s development agenda.
This is not Johnson’s first political role. In 2017, she was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment, Arts and Culture by former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello.
She is married to Odianosen Okojie, who represents Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives.
