APC faces tough contest as ADC leads in Kubwa, Bwari LG polling units

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has established an early lead in the chairmanship race at the LEA Primary School, Kubwa II, in the Bwari Area Council, according to results announced by INEC electoral officers.

Although the contest for Council Chairmanship was closely fought between the ADC and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ADC pulled ahead with 67 votes across four polling units, while the APC garnered 40 votes. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and APGA trailed with 21 and 20 votes respectively.

Polling Units Breakdown – Chairmanship Votes:

Unit 044: ADC 20, APC 7, APGA 3, Accord 1, PDP 1

Unit 045: ADC 13, APC 11, ZLP 3, APGA 3, PDP 2, Accord 1, Action Alliance 1

Unit 047: ADC 15, APC 2, ZLP 5, APGA 4, PDP 2, SDP 2, Invalid 2

Unit 006: ADC 19, APC 20, APGA 10, ZLP 13, Accord 5, PDP 8, SDP 2, ADP 1

For the councillorship positions, the ADC also recorded strong showings in most units, particularly Unit 047 where they led with 12 votes over ZLP’s 10 and APGA’s 4.

Despite the early results, voter turnout was notably low. Of the 4,063 registered voters across the four polling units, only 181 voters were accredited to cast their ballots, highlighting continued apathy despite mobilisation efforts.

Observers also reported isolated cases of vote-buying, especially at Unit 024, Water Board junction, where female operatives allegedly offered voters N2,000 per vote. Additionally, technical hitches affected the BVAS machines, with voters providing power banks to sustain the voting process.

One voter, speaking on condition of anonymity, attributed their support for the APC to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who reportedly mobilised traders through unions and promised infrastructural projects, including new markets.

The results underscore a competitive contest between opposition and ruling party candidates in Bwari, albeit overshadowed by low turnout, vote-buying allegations, and operational challenges during voting.
