Gunmen kill former Otukpo LG Boss Udeh Ijachi in Benue

Suspected gunmen on Thursday night killed a former caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State, identified as Udeh Ijachi.

Ijachi, widely known as “Honourable Ukpem,” was reportedly shot dead by unidentified attackers in an incident that has left residents of Otukpo in shock.

Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred in front of Okabido Hotel, where the former council boss was allegedly ambushed. According to people at the scene, the gunmen suddenly opened fire on him before fleeing the area.

The sound of gunshots caused panic around the neighbourhood, with residents and passers-by rushing out moments later to see what had happened.

Many described the incident as shocking, saying the area was thrown into confusion after the shooting.

As of the time of this report, security authorities had not released any official statement regarding the killing. However, investigations are expected to begin to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and track down those responsible.

Ijachi had previously served as caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area and was well known in political and community circles within the state.

The reason behind the attack remains unknown.

Meanwhile, residents have urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and strengthen security in the area to prevent similar occurrences.
