BREAKING: Many feared dead as suspected herdsmen attack Mararaba Community in Nasarawa, burn homes

No fewer than six persons have been reportedly killed following a deadly attack on Aso A community near Jumai Estate in Mararaba, a boundary area between Abuja and Nasarawa State.

The attack, believed to have been carried out by suspected herdsmen, began on Wednesday morning, leaving several others injured and properties destroyed.

Sources said the violence was triggered by an earlier clash between a farmer and a herder, which reportedly resulted in the death of the herder. The farmer is said to have fled shortly after the incident.

In what appeared to be a reprisal, the assailants allegedly stormed the residence of the fleeing farmer, attacking residents indiscriminately and setting houses ablaze. Efforts by community members to resist the હુમ હુમ attackers reportedly escalated the situation, leading to further casualties and destruction.

Eyewitness footage from the scene showed buildings engulfed in flames, while one victim’s body was seen being transported in a wheelbarrow to a nearby hospital.

Residents, speaking anonymously, said the community has largely been deserted, with many fleeing to safer areas within Abuja and neighbouring towns.

Security forces, including police and military personnel, have since been deployed to restore order in the affected area.

In a related development, a motorcyclist conveying a police officer to the scene was reportedly ambushed and killed by the attackers.

Although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, tension continues to mount in the area amid fears of further reprisals, with reports suggesting that additional armed groups may be mobilising from Keffi.

Efforts to get an official response from the Aso A Police Division were unsuccessful, as authorities declined to comment on the incident.
