UFC: Israel Adesanya defeated by Pyfer, records fourth consecutive loss
Nigerian-born mixed martial artist Israel Adesanya has suffered his fourth consecutive defeat after losing to rising American contender Joe Pyfer via technical knockout in the main event of a UFC Fight Night on Sunday.
Pyfer delivered a dominant performance, stopping the former middleweight champion at 4:18 of the second round inside the Climate Pledge Arena. The victory marks a significant milestone in his career as he continues his ascent in the division.
Adesanya began the bout strongly, showcasing his trademark movement and striking in the opening round. However, Pyfer absorbed the early pressure and gradually shifted momentum with powerful punches and a crucial takedown.
The decisive moment came in the second round when Pyfer pinned Adesanya against the fence before taking the fight to the ground. From there, he advanced to full mount and unleashed a series of heavy strikes, prompting referee Herb Dean to stop the contest.
Reacting after the bout, Pyfer highlighted his fearless approach, noting his determination to dominate every opponent he faces.
Despite the setback, Adesanya expressed resilience, insisting he remains committed to continuing his fighting career.
The loss deepens a difficult run for the 36-year-old, who once ruled the middleweight division but has now gone four fights without a win since reclaiming the title in April 2023.
For Pyfer, the victory over a former champion signals his growing credentials and positions him as a serious contender in the middleweight title race.
