Seplat Energy workers calls off indefinite strike

Published

on

Workers of Seplat Energy have called off their strike just hours after it began.

The industrial action started on Friday following a breakdown in talks over the 2026 collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and concerns around staff welfare.

Very Nigerian reports that the workers had planned to halt production reporting and export activities while maintaining only essential safety and power operations.

However, by Saturday, the President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Festus Osifo, confirmed to Very Nigerian that the strike had been called off.

Osifo said the strike was suspended after Seplat accepted the collective bargaining agreement.

“Stakeholders intervened and Seplat management agreed to CBA terms that we earlier requested for,” he said.

Only workers under PENGASSAN were involved in the strike, while other less skilled workers covered by a second union did not participate.

This is the second strike involving PENGASSAN workers in eight months, as the workers’ union embarked on strike against Dangote refinery on September 27, 2025.

PENGASSAN embarked on the strike over the dismissal of “over 800 workers” by Dangote refinery, and directed all branches of international oil companies (IOC) to ramp down gas production and supply to Dangote refinery.

The strike was called off on October 1.
