2027: PDP gains in Yobe as 2,025 opposition members join party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has welcomed 2,025 new members who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors were drawn from communities across Nangere Local Government Area of the state and were received by PDP executives during a ceremony held at Sabon Garin Nangere on Sunday.
The reception was led by Halilu Mazagane, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former senatorial candidate for Yobe South.
Addressing party members at the event, Mazagane said the defectors included 500 former APC members, 1,300 from the ADC and 225 from the NDP.
The development comes as political parties in the state intensify efforts to strengthen their structures and attract more supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the ceremony, the new and old members of the party were enjoined to “stay focused” and disallow “intimidation”.
“We are here to create awareness among you members as well as receive defectors into the People’s Democratic Party. Today we have 500 defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), 1,300 from the African Democratic Party (ADC) and 225 from the Nigeria Democratic Party”
“We call on you, the defectors and the existing members of the party to stay focused and not to be intimidated. Vote for us at all levels; if elected, we promise to create jobs for youths and empower women,” he said.
He urged them to conduct themselves peacefully ahead of the electioneering period and vote for the candidates of their choice that would bring development to their areas.
Mazagane, who is also aspiring for the position of Member, representing Potiskum/Nangere constituency at the House of Representatives, pledged to create jobs among the youths if elected into office.
