The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released its timetable for the 2027 general elections, fixing May 25 for its presidential primary election.

The development was announced in a communiqué issued after the party’s 106th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Reading the communiqué, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Jungudo Mohammed, said the schedule aligns with the revised timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections.

According to the timetable, submission of the party’s membership register to INEC has been fixed for April 10.

The NEC also scheduled State House of Assembly primaries for May 2, National Assembly primaries for May 9, and governorship primaries for May 16.

The party said the schedule complies with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, including timelines for resolving disputes arising from the primaries.

The NEC urged all party organs and stakeholders to begin preparations immediately and ensure strict compliance with the approved timetable and statutory guidelines.

It also commended the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, for its efforts in stabilising the party during the transitional period.

The committee noted the successful conduct of the Ward and Local Government Congresses, while State Congresses are expected to hold across the country this weekend.

The NEC further approved the conduct of Zonal Congresses scheduled to take place in two weeks as part of preparations for the party’s National Convention.

The party reaffirmed its readiness for the National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, where a new National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to be elected.

In addition, the NEC approved the expansion of the party’s electronic membership registration to modernise its database and improve transparency in party administration.

The communiqué also emphasised the need for reconciliation among party leaders and members, urging all factions involved in disputes to embrace dialogue and avoid further litigation at the Supreme Court in the interest of unity and stability.

The party reiterated its commitment to democratic principles, good governance and national development, expressing optimism that renewed unity among its members would strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
