2027 will be my last try for presidency – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the 2027 presidential election will mark his final attempt at Nigeria’s highest political office.
Atiku made the declaration during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, noting that he would no longer contest for the presidency after the 2027 election cycle.
“The 2027 election will be my last outing,” he said.
When asked why Nigerians should vote for him despite multiple previous attempts and concerns about his age, the former Vice President said Nigeria’s core challenge remains a leadership deficit.
He argued that he represents both experience and continuity in Nigeria’s political evolution, describing himself as a bridge between past governance experience and future aspirations.
Atiku also stressed the need for structured leadership development in the country, calling for greater investment in training young Nigerians for future leadership roles.
He said Nigeria requires deliberate efforts to build competent leaders capable of addressing the country’s governance challenges.
The former presidential candidate has contested for Nigeria’s presidency since 1992.
