Several bandits have been reportedly killed on Monday after troops engaged fleeing terrorists in a gun battle in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident happened when the convoy of the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, who also serves as Commander of Sector 2 under Operation Fansan Yamma, encountered the armed group during a return trip from an operational visit.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post shared on X, noting that the clash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 6, 2026.
According to security sources, the senior military officer had been on an assessment tour of troops and the security situation at Kulchin Kalgo and the Forward Operating Base in Danjibga before the encounter.
The troops were said to have responded swiftly when they came across the fleeing terrorists, leading to a firefight that left several of the bandits dead.
On reaching Maitashi village, the convoy reportedly encountered fleeing terrorists, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
During the engagement, troops neutralised several of the assailants and recovered weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles.
However, one soldier who sustained gunshot wounds during the clash was evacuated to Keta Healthcare Centre, where he was later confirmed dead.
Troops subsequently cleared the area before the convoy continued to Gusau, while operations in the axis remain ongoing.
