2027: Former Ondo Governor Mimiko dumps PDP

Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to the chairman of Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko formally announced his exit from the party.

“I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026,” he stated.

The former governor noted that growing speculation about his political status made it necessary to clarify his position, adding that he had been largely absent from party activities in recent times.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” he said.

Mimiko emphasized that his decision was taken “without animosity toward anyone.”

His resignation follows the earlier exit of several of his loyalists from the PDP, many of whom have aligned with Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Political observers say the development is not unexpected, given the gradual disengagement of the former governor from active party affairs.

Confirming the development, Mimiko’s former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, said the resignation letter had been submitted but did not provide further details.
