2027: Nasarawa Gov officially presents Wadada to Tinubu as successor
Abdullahi Sule on Friday formally introduced Aliyu Wadada to Bola Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting took place at the State House in Abuja, where the governor presented Wadada as his preferred successor, reinforcing an earlier endorsement that has begun shaping the state’s political direction.
Sule had first made his position known on Thursday during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, where he publicly backed Wadada for the top job.
He said the choice was the outcome of consultations with stakeholders within and outside the state.
“After exhaustive consultations, the field was eventually narrowed to three aspirants, each of whom was considered capable of winning,” he said.
“Further consultations were conducted before a final decision was reached in favour of Senator Wadada. We had to look for people who have the capacity to win this election.”
Wadada, chairman of the senate committee on public accounts, defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the APC in August 2025.
The endorsement comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed April 23 to May 30 for parties to conduct primaries and field candidates.
