“Thank God I’m not on list of Govs fighting Wike, I feel relieved” — Governor Sule reacts to APC Govs rift with FCT Minister
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reacted to the list of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors whom FCT Minister Nyesom Wike accused of opposing his Rainbow Coalition.
Wike had named Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as governors he said were fighting the coalition. He also mentioned other governors who, according to him, had no problem with the political arrangement.
Reacting to the development, Sule said he was relieved that his name was not on Wike’s list.
“Thank God I’m not on that list. I feel relieved that I’m not on Wike’s list of APC governors fighting the Rainbow Coalition,” Sule said.
The Nasarawa governor also questioned the criticism of Wike’s support for President Bola Tinubu despite not being a member of the APC.
“Wike is one of the ministers in this administration, and if he says he wants to support President Tinubu from another party, remember he’s not an APC member. What’s the whole essence of an alliance?” he said.
Sule further suggested that the message from the Progressive Governors’ Forum may have been misunderstood, amid the growing disagreement between APC governors and supporters of Wike’s cross-party Rainbow Coalition.
The dispute centres on how support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election should relate to the interests of the APC and candidates contesting other positions.
Wike has maintained that his coalition is focused on mobilising support for Tinubu across political parties and does not prevent other parties from fielding candidates in the 2027 elections.
The comments come as the debate over the Rainbow Coalition continues to generate reactions among APC governors and other political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
