Sowore accuses Obi of hypocrisy over Northern development comments
Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticised Peter Obi over his recent remarks on northern Nigeria, accusing him of political opportunism.
Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had described the North as Nigeria’s “greatest asset,” emphasising the region’s vast agricultural potential and calling for renewed investment to drive economic growth.
Reacting, Sowore argued that Obi’s position was driven by electoral considerations rather than conviction, alleging that it contradicts actions taken during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
According to Sowore, Obi’s current outreach to the North appears aimed at securing political support ahead of future elections. He also referenced past allegations that Obi repatriated northern migrants during his time in office, claiming the former governor is now adopting a different stance.
Sowore maintained that no single region holds a monopoly on Nigeria’s economic potential, stressing that all parts of the country—North, South, and Middle Belt—can contribute meaningfully to national development.
He added that Nigeria’s progress depends more on effective leadership than regional focus, insisting that prosperity can be achieved across the country with the right policies and governance.
